Montgomery, Alabama - Lee Anthony Lovvorn, 48, of Coffee County, Alabama, pled guilty in federal court on September 5, 2012, to knowingly receiving child pornography, United States Attorney George L. Beck, Jr., announced. Lovvorn admitted that he had intentionally downloaded child pornographic images from the internet.

The investigation of Lovvorn began in December 2009, when officers with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department found a computer in Lovvorn’s residence that contained over 9,000 images depicting children being sexually abused and raped. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was able to identify the child victims in approximately 670 of the child pornography images that Lovvorn possessed.

This case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 that aims to combat the proliferation of technology-facilitated sexual exploitation crimes against children. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. The investigation of this case was conducted by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department, and the Alabama Department of Human Resources. Assistant United States Attorneys Nathan D. Stump and Jared H. Morris prosecuted the case.
