BIRMINGHAM – A federal grand jury on Tuesday indicted a Homewood man for possessing and manufacturing destructive devices, announced U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Special Agent in Charge Glenn N. Anderson.

A two-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court charges SOLOMON O’CONNOR FLOWERS, 19, with unlawfully possessing three improvised explosive devices not registered to him in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record. The indictment also charges him with constructing the destructive devices.

Flowers was initially arrested by state and local law enforcement July 3 and charged in a federal criminal complaint and affidavit filed July 8.

Flowers faces a maximum prison sentence of 10 years on each charge.

The ATF, Homewood Police and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Enid D. Athanas is prosecuting the case.

Members of the public are reminded that an indictment contains only charges. A defendant is presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government’s burden to prove a defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
