The United States Attorney Kenyen R. Brown announced today that Shelton Denard Davis, also known as Jay, has been sentenced to a term of 14 years imprisonment for his participation in an interstate scheme to distribute cocaine and crack cocaine. United States District Judge Callie V. S. Granade imposed the sentence in federal court this morning. Court documents show that Davis traveled from North Carolina to Mobile to pick up a kilogram of cocaine from his supplier. Unbeknownst to Davis, his supplier had been arrested by the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office when a patrol deputy found the cocaine in his vehicle, and he agreed to cooperate with the officers to make the delivery to Davis. Davis was arrested in Mobile at a local motel when he arrived at a room to pick up the cocaine.

Judge Granade also ordered that Davis undergo comprehensive residential drug abuse treatment while in prison, and that he serve a term of five years following his term of imprisonment. Judge Granade found that Davis was unable to pay a fine, but she imposed $200 in special mandatory assessments.

The case was investigated by the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Gloria Bedwell.
