MOBILE, AL-- United States Attorney Kenyen R. Brown announced today that Cherease Shanta Edwards, a Mobile, Alabama resident, was sentenced by Chief United States District Judge William Steele to 21 months imprisonment to be followed by 3 years supervised release. Edwards was also ordered to make restitution in theamount of$19,000.00. Mr. Brown also announced that Edward's son, Nigah Edwards, who is also a Mobile resident was sentenced today by Judge Steele to time served after having served four months in custody and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of$10,000.00. Nigah Edwards was placed on three years of supervised release.

Cherease and Nigah Edwards both previously entered guilty pleas to mail fraud in connection with the submission of false BP claims.

The cases arose from an investigation by the United States Secret Service and were prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Deborah Griffin.
