
Hale County Woman Sentenced To One Year In Federal Prison For False Tax Return
United States Attorney Kenyen Brown announces that Delois Warren of Greensboro, Alabama was sentenced by the United States District Court in Mobile, Alabama to serve one year and one day in Federal prison for filing a false tax return She was also sentenced to serve one year of supervised release, was ordered not to prepare tax returns for others during that time, and was ordered to pay restitution of $173,455. Warren had earlier pled guilty to a charge that she made a 2008 tax return which reported 2008 gross receipts of $6,468 for her tax return preparation business, compared to true gross receipts of some $264,594.14.
The case was investigated by agents of the Birmingham office of Criminal Investigation, Internal Revenue Service. United States Attorney Kenyen R. Brown stated that the prosecution shows the Department of Justice understands its duty to work to ensure that honest taxpayers are not taken advantage of by those who cheat on their taxes. Donald P. Yaden, Special Agent In Charge with IRS-Criminal Investigation. said: “Plain and simple - Individuals who earn income should report their income to the IRS. The sentence today should reassure those Americans who file accurate, honest and timely returns that the Government will hold accountable those who don’t.”
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Baer on behalf of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Alabama.
