CLARKSVILLE WOMAN SENTENCED FOR CONSPIRACY TO DISTRIBUTE METHAMPHETAMINE

Fort Smith- Esmerelda Resendez, of Clarksville, was sentenced today to 78 months imprisonment for conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, namely, more than 50 grams of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine, announced Conner Eldridge, United States Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas. United States District Judge Paul K. Holmes ordered Resendez to pay $2,500 in fines and ordered her to serve four years supervised release upon her release from prison.
On July 12, 2011, a Fort Smith jury found Resendez guilty of the one-count Indictment after a two day trial.
Evidence presented at trial showed that the defendant distributed large quantities of methamphetamine to a group of drug dealers in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Two witnesses testified that the defendant set up the transactions with phone calls and text messages, some of which were introduced as evidence in the trial. In addition, the witnesses also testified that Resendez lived in Clarksville, Arkansas, but would sometimes arrange to meet the other drug dealers in Fort Smith or Alma to complete the drug transactions.
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Clay Fowlkes of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Arkansas.
