BAYFIELD RESIDENT FOUND GUILTY OF CHILD PORN POSSESSION
DENVER -- Troy Eid, United States Attorney for the District of Colorado, announced that KENNETH J. YOUNG, resident of Bayfield, Colorado, was found guilty today following a three day jury trial before U.S. District Court Judge Walker D. Miller, of one count of possession of child pornography. The jury deliberated for four hours prior to returning the guilty verdict.
During the trial, the government presented evidence that Young had possessed hundreds of images of child pornography on his government issued desktop computer. Young was an employee of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), based in Ignacio, Colorado. Young was responsible for the IT functions for the BIA in the Ignacio office. Young was on administrative leave prior to and during the trial.
Young's sentencing date has not yet been set. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Durango Office, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Office of the Inspector General.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Habib Nasrullah and Jim Candelaria.
YOUNG faces up to 5 years in federal prison, and not more than a $250,000 fine.
"The United States Attorney's Office takes crimes against children seriously, and will prosecute offenders whereever they may be found throughout Colorado," said US Attorney Eid. "I want to thank the federal prosecutors as well as the FBI and BIA for their outstanding work on this case."
