USP FLORENCE INMATE FOUND GUILTY OF ASSAULTING PRISON GUARD WITH HOT WAX

DENVER -- Jay Vaughan Gregory, age 51, has been found guilty of assault on a federal officer following a three day jury trial in Denver, Colorado. 

According to facts presented during the trial, Gregory, an inmate at USP Florence, microwaved wax until it was hot.  He then throw the hot wax into the face of a prison guard.  Gregory originally intended to throw the microwaved hot wax on a Member of Congress who had planned to tour the penitentiary.  That tour was postponed, so Gregory threw the hot wax in at a prison guard instead, causing bodily injury. 

The case was prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Judith Smith.
