ADAMS COUNTY WOMAN SENTENCED FOR NORTHGLENN BANK ROBBERY

DENVER -- Shannon Marie Hunter, age 27, of Adams County, Colorado, was sentenced this afternoon by U.S. District Court Judge Robert E. Blackburn, to serve 24 months (2 years) in federal prison for bank robbery. She was also ordered to pay $4,080 in restitution to the FDIC, which insures banks to protect them from loss. Hunter was remanded into custody and ordered to start serving her sentence immediately.

Hunter was first charged by Criminal Complaint on November 16, 2007. She was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 5, 2007. She pled guilty before Judge Blackburn on March 12, 2008. She was sentenced today.

On July 13, 2007, Hunter robbed the Compass Bank, located at 480 East 120th Avenue, in Northglenn, Colorado. She approached the teller, handed her a note, and then left with over $4,000 in cash. The defendant later stated she needed the money to pay bills and rent for her apartment.

“Regardless of the reasons why you rob a bank, the result may be the same, go to prison,” said U.S. Attorney Troy Eid.

“Thanks to Northglenn Police officers, in conjunction with Rocky Mountain Safe Street officers and agents, the defendant was brought to justice,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge James Davis.

This case was investigated by the Northglenn Police Department, and the FBI’s Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force.  The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Holloway.
