U.S. ATTORNEY TROY EID TO MAKE REMARKS AT THE HUNDRED CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING IN DURANGO

WHAT: Troy Eid, United States Attorney for the District of Colorado, will make remarks at the Hundred Club’s annual meeting tonight.  The Hundred Club is a non-profit organization that provides financial and other assistance to fallen and injured law enforcement officers, firefighters, and their families.

U.S. Attorney Eid’s remarks will detail the concrete steps his office has taken to strengthen federal law enforcement and judicial access in Western Colorado, including:

* Recruiting veteran Western Slope prosecutors and staff for the Durango and Grand Junction Branch Offices, and substantially expanding Western Slope federal criminal prosecutions.

* Working with FBI, ATF and other agencies to increase boots-on-the-ground federal agents working criminal cases, including gang and gun violence, corporate fraud, and immigration crimes.

Since Eid took office in 2006, stationing new federal law enforcement agents permanently on the Western Slope has been a top priority, and is now at an all-time high.

Eid has partnered with the Southern Ute and Ute Mountain Ute Indian Tribes to train more than 100 Four Corners tribal, state and local officers to be deputized as federal agents - increasing public safety in and around Indian Country.

Working with the U.S. District Court to increase federal trials, hearings and sentencings in Durango – more in the past two years than at any other time in modern Colorado history.

“Times are changing on the Western Slope.  You expect more of us, and we'll keep working to earn your trust,” United States Attorney Eid said.
