STATUS ON AIRPLANE CASE COURT APPEARANCES
October 10, 2008 UPDATE: Ezra Wallace bonds out of federal custody
Ezra Wallace, the man accused of binding the hands of a 16-year-old girl, and attempting to bind the hands of her 9-year-old sister, aboard a Southwest Airlines flight, was the subject of a preliminary hearing this afternoon. U.S. Magistrate Judge Kristen L. Mix found that there was probable cause that Wallace committed the crime of assault aboard an aircraft. Magistrate Judge Mix then ordered Wallace to be released on a $5,000 unsecured bond. She also ordered that Wallace follow a number of pre-trial release conditions, including no flying, no alcohol, and no contact with victims or witnesses in this case. Wallace is next expected in court on October 17, 2008 at 10:30 am before U.S. Magistrate Judge Boyd N. Boland for arraignment.
October 7, 2008 UPDATE – United States vs Ezra Wallace
Ezra Wallace appeared in U.S. District Court in Denver this afternoon. At that hearing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Allison filed an Information, formalizing the charges against Wallace. The defendant appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Kristen L. Mix. Magistrate Judge Mix advised Wallace of the charges pending against him, namely, two counts of assault aboard an aircraft (for more information see press release below). Magistrate Judge Mix appointed a Federal Public Defender to represent Wallace. A arraignment, detention hearing and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday, October 10, 2008 at 2:00 pm before Magistrate Judge Mix.
October 7, 2008 UPDATE – United States vs Christina Szele
Christina Szele appeared in U.S. District Court in Denver this afternoon. Szele appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Kristen L. Mix. Magistrate Judge Mix advised Szele of the charges pending against her, namely, Szele’s violation of her pre-trial bond conditions (for more information see press release below). Magistrate Judge Mix appointed a Federal Public Defender to represent Szele. A detention hearing is scheduled for Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 1:15 pm before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael J. Watanabe.
