David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that THOMAS WOODWARD, 37, last residing in Fall River, Mass., pleaded guilty today before United States District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to one count of bank robbery.
           
According to court documents and statements made in court, on July 24, 2010, WOODWARD vaulted the counter at a Citizens Bank branch, located at 23 Broadway in Mystic, and robbed the bank of approximately $4,267.
           
Judge Underhill has scheduled sentencing for April 5, 2012, at which time WOODWARD faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of up to $250,000.
           
WOODWARD has been detained since August 20, 2010, after his arrest on unrelated charges by the Massachusetts State Police.
           
This case has been investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Stonington Police Department, with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Douglas P. Morabito.
