
BAKERY OWNER WHO EMPLOYED ALIENS IS SENTENCED
David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that ANTHONY DiBENEDETTO, 65, of North Branford, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Mark R. Kravitz in New Haven to three years of probation for employing aliens at his business. Judge Kravitz also ordered DiBENEDETTO to perform 150 hours of community service.
According to court documents and statements made in court, DiBENEDETTO owns and operates Rocco’s Bakery, with locations in New Haven and Meriden. From approximately 2000 through May 2008, DiBENEDETTO employed at least 10 individuals at his bakeries knowing that they were in the country unlawfully and were not authorized to work.
Judge Kravitz will schedule a hearing within 30 days to determine if DiBENEDETTO will be required to forfeit any assets or a money judgment in lieu of property, and pay restitution.
On January 26, 2011, DiBENEDETTO pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful employment of aliens.
