David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that two men charged as a result of a long-term investigation into gang activity and trafficking of firearms and narcotics in southwestern Connecticut were sentenced yesterday by Senior United States District Judge Ellen Bree Burns in New Haven federal court.
           
ANTHONY UZAR, JR., 50, of Stamford, was sentenced to 24 months of imprisonment, followed by two years of supervised release.  On May 25, 2011, UZAR pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to willfully engage in the business of dealing in firearms without a license.

According to court documents and statements made in court, UZAR provided multiple firearms to his son, Patrick Uzar, knowing that Patrick Uzar intended to sell the firearms to a third party.

JAMAR BLACKBURN, 28, also known as “Mar” and “Mars,” of Stamford, was sentenced to 120 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release.  On January 27, 2012, BLACKBURN pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to willfully engage in the business of dealing in firearms without a license, and one count of willfully engaging in the business of dealing in firearms without a license.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on October 14, 2010, an individual cooperating with law enforcement purchased from Patrick Uzar a Sig Sauer Mosquito .22 caliber, semi-automatic pistol and a Smith and Wesson Model SW9V pistol for $1,200.  Prior to the transaction, BLACKBURN and John S. Davis purchased the two firearms at a gun store in Norwalk using Davis’s firearms permit, and BLACKBURN then provided the firearms to Patrick Uzar.

On January 26, 2012, Patrick Uzar pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of cocaine, and one count of possession and transfer of a machine gun.  He awaits sentencing.

John Davis pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to willfully engage in the business of dealing in firearms without a license and, on February 12, 2012, he was sentenced to three years of probation.

More than 100 firearms, including machine guns, were purchased or seized during the investigation, and a total of 17 individuals were charged with various federal offenses.

This matter is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the United States Marshals Service, the Stamford Police Department, the Bridgeport Police Department, the Norwalk Police Department and the Connecticut Department of Correction.  The investigation was funded in significant part by the United States Attorney’s Office Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) and supported by the Office’s Project Safe Neighborhoods and Anti-Gang programs.

This matter is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Anthony E. Kaplan and Marc H. Silverman.
