David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that MARK MANSA, 47, of Bethel, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant in Hartford to 46 months of imprisonment, followed by four years of supervised release, for distributing marijuana and anabolic steroids.  MANSA also was ordered to pay a fine in the amount of $25,000.

According to court documents and statements made in court, from at least January 2007 through February 2011, MANSA and others conspired to distribute large quantities of marijuana in the greater-Danbury area.  The investigation of this matter, which has included the use of court-authorized wiretaps, law enforcement surveillance and controlled purchases of illicit drugs from MANSA, also revealed that MANSA has distributed illegal anabolic steroids since at least 2004.

MANSA was arrested on February 25, 2011.  On December 30, 2011, he pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 100 kilograms or more of marijuana.

In a related civil case, the Government is seeking the forfeiture of two parcels of real property in Bethel, which are owned by MANSA.

This matter is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Danbury Police Department.  The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Joseph Vizcarrondo and Assistant United States Attorneys Tracy Lee Dayton and David Sullivan.
