David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that THOMAS WOODWARD, 38, last residing in Fall River, Mass., was sentenced today by United States District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to 130 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for bank robbery.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on July 24, 2010, WOODWARD vaulted the counter at a Citizens Bank branch, located at 23 Broadway in Mystic, and robbed the bank of approximately $4,267.

At the time of the robbery, WOODWARD was on federal supervised release after serving a term of imprisonment for committing two bank robberies in Rhode Island.

WOODWARD has been detained since August 20, 2010, after his arrest on unrelated charges by the Massachusetts State Police.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Stonington Police Department, with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police.  The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Douglas P. Morabito.
