David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that COREY WILLIAMS, JR., also known as “Little Corey,” 24, of Meriden, and KHALID AZIZ, also known as “Corey Williams, Sr.,” “Cory Williams,” “Avery Smith,” “Gregory Richardson,” “Andre Gorham,” and “Big Corey,” 43, of New Haven, have each pleaded guilty to one count of sale of stolen firearms.  WILLIAMS pleaded guilty today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Joan G. Margolis in New Haven, and AZIZ pleaded guilty on October 22, 2012.  WILLIAMS is the son of AZIZ.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on February 2, 2012, WILLIAMS and AZIZ participated in the sale of two 12 gauge shotguns and a .308 caliber semi-automatic rifle to an individual working with law enforcement.  The three firearms had been stolen from a federal firearms licensee in Meriden, and WILLIAMS and AZIZ knew that the firearms had been stolen.

WILLIAMS and AZIZ are scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Janet Bond Arterton in January 2013.  Each defendant faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years and a fine of up to $250,000.

This case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with substantial assistance provided by the New Haven Police Department and the Meriden Police Department.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Marc H. Silverman.

The Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative is aimed at reducing gun and gang violence, deterring illegal possession of guns, and improving the safety of residents of Connecticut’s cities.
