David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that OMAR LEZCANO, also known as “Cuevo,” 37, of West Haven, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to 28 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for illegally selling firearms.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on four occasions between September and November 2011, LEZCANO and David Giles sold four handguns and three bulletproof vests to an individual working with law enforcement.  All of the sales occurred during the daytime in a parking lot on Kimberly Avenue in New Haven.  One of the firearms had been reported as stolen.

LEZCANO has been detained since his arrest on February 2, 2012.  On May 21, he pleaded guilty to one count of unlawfully dealing in firearms.

David Giles, also known as “Davilla Giles” and “Dizzy,” 31, previously pleaded guilty to the same charge and, on August 16, 2012, he was sentenced to 60 months of imprisonment.

This matter was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the New Haven Police Department.  The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Vanessa Richards.
