David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that JOSHUA McGRATH, 32, of Thomaston, waived his right to indictment and pleaded guilty today before United States Magistrate Judge Donna F. Martinez in Hartford to one count of dealing in firearms without a license.

According to court documents and statements made in court, in October 2011, McGRATH, who was a regular user of illegal narcotics, sold three firearms to his drug dealer.  McGRATH received approximately $500 for each firearm.

McGRATH is scheduled to be sentenced by Chief United States District Judge Alvin W. Thompson on March 5, 2013, at which time McGRATH faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five years and a fine of up to $250,000.

MCGRATH was released on a $50,000 bond.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Hartford Police Department.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan S. Freimann.

The Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative is aimed at reducing gun and gang violence, deterring illegal possession of guns, and improving the safety of residents of Connecticut’s cities.
