District Man Sentenced to Eight-Year Prison Term
For Sexually Abusing 12-Year Old Girl

     WASHINGTON - Tyrone Ball, 46, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after earlier pleading guilty to a felony charge stemming from the sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl, U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr. announced.

     Ball, of Washington, D.C., pled guilty in September 2011 in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia to a charge of first degree child sexual abuse. The Honorable Thomas J. Motley sentenced him on December 14, 2011. Upon completion of his prison term, Ball will be placed on five years of supervised release.

     At the plea hearing, Ball admitted that on August 6, 2011, he caused the victim to submit to oral sex at an apartment in Southeast Washington. At the time, he was the boyfriend of the victim’s mother and frequently stayed at the family’s apartment. The defendant assaulted the victim late at night when the other family members were asleep. Ball admitted that he caused the victim to engage in sexual acts or contact on approximately 15 previous occasions.

     In announcing the sentencing, U.S. Attorney Machen expressed his appreciation to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), especially Detective Scott Dowling. He also commended the work of Legal Assistant Ashley Patterson, Paralegal Joyce Arthur, Victim Advocate Tracey Hawkins, and John Marsh from the Criminal Investigations Unit. He acknowledged the outstanding work of the Children’s Advocacy Center, which provided critical services and treatment to the victim. Lastly, he commended Assistant U.S. Attorney Cassidy Kesler Pinegar, who investigated and prosecuted the case.
