Two Men Sentenced to Prison Terms for Armed Robberies, Including One in Which Victim Was Shot
- Attacks Took Place in Spring of 2011 -
WASHINGTON - Terrence Walker, 27, was sentenced today to a 20-year prison term and a co-defendant, Stefon Summers, 28, was sentenced to 16 years of incarceration for their roles in a series of armed robberies earlier this year, including one in which the victim was shot in the abdomen, U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr. announced.
The defendants, both from Washington, D.C., pled guilty in August 2011 in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. They were sentenced by the Honorable Jennifer Anderson. Upon completion of their prison terms, they will be placed on five years of supervised release.
Walker pled guilty to charges of aggravated assault while armed, armed robbery, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, unlawful possession of a firearm, and conspiracy to commit robbery. Summers pled guilty to charges of aggravated assault, armed robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm, attempted armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery.
According to the government’s evidence, between May 19 and June 6, 2011, the defendants conspired to commit a series of armed robberies throughout the Washington, D.C. area. The defendants were linked to a total of 15 robberies, three of which became part of the guilty pleas.
The three attacks in the guilty pleas included a robbery that took place at 9:25 p.m. on May 19, 2011. The men drove to the area of the 800 block of Sixth Street SW. Walker approached a woman on the block, pointed a gun and robbed her of her handbag.
The defendants also pled guilty to charges in a robbery that occurred at 12:30 a.m. on June 2, 2011. Walker and Summers drove to the area of the 4400 block of 42nd Street NW. Walker again approached a woman with a gun and robbed her. He grabbed the victim’s shoulder bag, and as he struggled to take it, he struck the victim in the neck with the gun. The gun discharged, causing a burn to the victim’s neck. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Finally, they pled to charges in a robbery and shooting that unfolded at about 3:40 a.m. on June 6, 2011. Walker and Summers approached two victims who were standing near their cars in the 1000 block of Seventh Street NW. Walker pointed a gun and ordered the two to turn over their valuables. One victim complied, handing over her purse. The other reached for Walker’s gun, and Walker shot him once in the abdomen. Summers then went through this victim’s pockets, while he was wounded and on the ground. The victim suffered internal injuries that required his hospitalization for five weeks in an intensive care unit.
Walker and Summers were arrested within weeks and have been in custody since.
In announcing the sentence, U.S. Attorney Machen praised those who handled the case for the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), including Detectives Dennis Myles of the First District, Detectives Thomas Rosenborg and James Bovino of the Second District, and Detectives Ricardo Leiva, Antoine Weston and Jose Morales, of the Third District. He also commended those who worked on the case from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, including Victim Witness Advocate Jennifer Clark and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jamila Hodge and Stephen Rickard.
