District Man Sentenced to Four-Year Prison Term
For Threats, Weapons Charges in Workplace Violence Incident

     WASHINGTON - Donald L. March, 46, of Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to four years in prison in connection with a workplace violence incident that took place in November 2011 in Northwest Washington, U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr. announced.

     March pled guilty in January 2012, in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, to the charges of felony threats and unlawful possession of a firearm. Judge Ann O’Regan Keary sentenced him on Aug. 16, 2012 to 36 months of incarceration for felony threats and 48 months for unlawful possession of a firearm. Judge Keary imposed the sentences to run concurrently.

     According to the government’s evidence, on Nov. 30, 2011, at about 10:50 p.m., March was working as a cook at a restaurant in the 300 block of Cedar Street NW. At some point, he began to argue with a female co-worker over a personal matter. During the argument, March angrily left the restaurant, but he returned shortly thereafter with a firearm hidden inside his coat. March confronted his female co-worker pointed the firearm at her stomach, and made a threatening remark. Witnesses called 9-1-1, and March fled.

     Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded to the scene, and learned that March lived in an apartment adjacent to the restaurant. Police contacted March, who was inside his apartment, asked him to come outside, and then took him into custody.

     In announcing the sentence, U.S. Attorney Machen commended the work of the detectives, patrol officers and crime scene officers from the MPD who worked on this case. He also praised the efforts of Paralegal Assistant Debra McPherson. Finally, he expressed appreciation to Assistant U.S. Attorneys Terry Eaton and Vivien Cockburn from the Fourth District Unit of the Superior Court Felony Major Crimes Section, who prosecuted the case.
