D.C. Criminal Justice Coordinating Council Wins
National Award for Intergovernmental Collaboration
- U.S. Attorney’s Office Among Agencies Joining in Improving Technology -

     WASHINGTON - Eight agencies participating in the District of Columbia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, including the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, have been named the top winner in the Intergovernmental Collaboration category of the national Excellence.gov competition.

     The award was given for the Case Initiation Project (CIP), a two-year effort that transformed the digital handling of information on adult criminal cases in the nation’s capital. CIP used technology to automate the previously paper-driven process of communicating information among agencies on cases, from arrests through electronic filing of court cases by prosecutors.

     The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia was among participants in the project, along with the Superior Court of the District of Columbia; the Metropolitan Police Department; the District of Columbia Office of the Attorney General; the Pretrial Services Agency for the District of Columbia; the U.S. Parole Commission; the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, and the D.C. Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.

     “This award highlights the commitment of our partner agencies to collaboration and information sharing,” stated Mannone Butler, Executive Director of the D.C. Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.

     More than 125 federal, state and local IT programs across the U.S. were nominated for awards in six categories, which were judged by a panel of 50 representatives from both the public and private IT sectors. Other finalists in the Intergovernmental Collaboration category were the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Commerce Department/NTIA/FCC and Minnesota local governments.

     The Applications Information Management team at the U.S. Attorney’s Office worked on the project, led by Supervisory Information Technology Specialist Nancy Gonzalez.

     The Excellence.gov Awards were created in 2001 by the American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) to recognize government programs that use information technology to advance the business of government in an effective, efficient and innovative manner.
