FOKEECHOBEE MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CRACK COCAINE CHARGES
Wifredo A. Ferrer, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and Mark R. Trouville, Special Agent in Charge, Drug Enforcement Administration, Miami Field Division, announced that defendant Javier Reynaldo Williams, of Okeechobee, FL, pleaded guilty on Monday, May 10, 2010, in United States District Court to charges of distribution of cocaine base, commonly known as crack cocaine, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Section 841(a)(1). At sentencing, these felony charges could result in a maximum 30 year sentence.
In the course of the plea hearing in open court, Williams admitted to selling and distributing crack cocaine on nine separate dates during the period of April through November 2009, each time to the same confidential informant of the DEA. Williams conceded that he had been a manager, organizer or leader of a group including his three co-defendants, who had each assisted Williams in one of the separate crack cocaine sales charged in the indictment. The total amount of crack cocaine involved in the sales was between 35 grams and 50 grams.
Williams will face sentencing by United States District Judge Jose E. Martinez on August 2, 2010, in U.S. District Court in Fort Pierce. Co-defendants Larry Bernard Smith, Arthur Lee Smith, and Lamar Ardley, Jr., had each entered their respective pleas of guilty to charges of distributing crack cocaine on Friday, April 30. These three co-defendants will face sentencing in District Court at Fort Pierce on July 23, 2010.
Mr. Ferrer commended the investigative efforts of the Drug Enforcement Administration and Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office for their work on these cases. The cases were prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Theodore M. Cooperstein.
