Wifredo A. Ferrer, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and Anthony V. Mangione, Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Miami Field Office, announced today’s guilty plea of Hipolito Alejandro Felix, 38, of Port Saint Lucie, to the charge of attempted production of child pornography.

Felix faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years imprisonment and a potential sentence of up to 30 years imprisonment at his sentencing on February 28, 2011 before United States District Court Judge K. Michael Moore, in Fort Pierce, Florida.

According to the stipulated factual basis in support of guilty plea, filed with the court today, after the Port Saint Lucie Police Department received a complaint of inappropriate text messages being sent to a 15-year old girl, law enforcement reviewed the victim's cellular telephone and found a photograph of a male later identified as the defendant exposing himself. Felix later admitted sending his nude image of himself to the victim’s cellular telephone. ICE special agents and Port Saint Lucie detectives also found two January 14, 2010, text messages sent to the victim's cellular phone, in which defendant Felix requested nude photographs of the victim.

Mr. Ferrer commended the investigative efforts of ICE's Homeland Security Investigations in Ft. Pierce and the Port Saint Lucie Police Department for their work on this case. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Carmen Lineberger.
