Sex Offender Sentenced

January 28, 2011

United States Attorney Michael J. Moore, Middle District of Georgia, announced that on  January 27, 2011, United States District Judge Hugh Lawson sentenced defendant Jason A. Nash, to 48 months imprisonment for Possession of Child Pornography.  The Court further ordered Nash to serve five years of supervised release upon completing his imprisonment and to register as a sex offender.

Nash, age 33, a resident of Valdosta, Georgia, pleaded guilty on August 5, 2010, to a one count Information charging him with Possession of Child Pornography.  Nash has remained in custody since the time of his plea of guilty.

Mr.  Nash stipulated that on January 17, 2009, a Georgia Bureau of Investigation Agent using forensic software determined that a computer, later traced to the Nash’s residence in Valdosta, had made available for sharing with other users nine digital video files containing known images of child pornography.

Thereafter, GBI agents determined that the internet protocol address associated with the suspect child porn images was traceable to a single family residence on a certain street in Valdosta, Georgia, where defendant Nash lived.  On March 10, 2009, GBI agents executed a search warrant at the residence of defendant Nash.

Nash was interviewed by the GBI the day of the search of the residence.  Nash stated that he alone was responsible for the pornography on the computer. Nash admitted he created folders on his computer which contained many child pornography still images and videos.

United States Attorney Michael Moore said, “As we continue our efforts to eliminate the sexual exploitation of children, the Department of Justice and the United States Attorney’s Office will track down offenders who possess or share child pornography”.
