Michael J. Moore, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, announces the sentencing of Sharmaine D. Simpson, age 24 of Pelham, Georgia.  On April 14, 2011, the Honorable W. Louis Sands, United States District Judge for the Middle District of Georgia, sentenced Simpson to serve 87 months in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons.  The sentencing came as the result of a guilty plea entered by the defendant. 

Simpson pleaded guilty to a violation of  Title 21 United States Code Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(B)(iii), Possession with Intent to Distribute in Excess of Five Grams of Crack Cocaine.

As part of his plea, Simpson stipulated that he had previously been the driver of a vehicle transporting a kilogram of cocaine, and on another occasion was found to be in possession of $50,000.00 which was intended to be used to purchase cocaine.

During November 2009, Simpson made multiple sales of crack cocaine to a confidential informant working on behalf of the Pelham Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

This case was investigated by the Pelham Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Leah McEwen.
