United States Attorney Michael J. Moore, Middle District of Georgia, announces the sentencing of Ramon Brown, age 35, of Albany, Georgia, which took place before the Honorable W. Louis Sands, United States District Judge for the Middle District of Georgia on July 28, 2011.

Ramon Brown’s sentence came as a result of his conviction at a jury trial of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(e).

At trial the Government proved that Brown had been found in possession of a Lorcin .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol, a black ski mask, a pair of black gloves and a small sack of bullets on May 30, 2009, in the vicinity of the Albany Mall.  Further, the government proved that Brown had the following prior felony convictions:

1)  Armed Robbery (6 counts) from Dougherty County, Georgia Superior Court Case Number 93R-968 dated November 8, 1993;
2)  Aggravated Stalking and Aggravated Assault (2 counts) from Dougherty County, Georgia Superior Court Case Number 03-R-1057 dated November 16, 2004; and,
3)  Aggravated Stalking from Dougherty County, Georgia Superior Court Case Number 04-R-532 dated November 16, 2004.

In imposing sentence, the Court granted the Government’s motion for upward variance based on the nature and extent of the Defendant’s prior criminal history.

“We will spare no effort to make sure that armed, violent criminals, like Mr. Brown, are taken off the streets and put in prison where they will no longer be a threat to the citizens of Albany and the Middle District of Georgia,” said United States Attorney Michael Moore.

Brown was sentenced to 360 months in the Bureau of Prisons, three years supervised release and a $100 mandatory assessment fee.
