Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon

Michael J. Moore, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, announces that Willie James Haugabrook, age 27, of Macon, Georgia, was found guilty on October 23, 2012,  after a jury trial of One Count of Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2).  The case was tried before the Honorable Marc T. Treadwell, United States District Judge for the Middle District of Georgia.

Haugabrook was found to have possessed a .38 caliber revolver while he fled from the United States Marshal who had a warrant for his arrest for a parole violation.  Haugabrook threw the weapon to the ground as he was being pursued by two law enforcement officers on Anthony Road in Macon, GA.  Haugabrook faces a maximum possible sentence of ten (10) years imprisonment, a $250,000.00 fine, three (3) years supervised release and a mandatory assessment fee of $100.00.  The sentencing will be scheduled by the Court at a later date.

United States Attorney Moore stated, “My office will continue to use our resources to get guns out of the hands of convicted felons and get those who violate federal gun laws off the street.”

The case was investigated by agents with Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Verda M. Colvin prosecuted the case for the government.
