129 Students Complete G.R.E.A.T. Program - Graduation At Wettengel Elementary School

United States Attorney Alicia A.G. Limtiaco, announced today that over 129 fifth grade students from Wettengel Elementary School in Dededo have completed the six- week curriculum taught by Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) officers and will be honored at a graduation ceremony on Thursday, March 29, 2012, from 9:45 A.M. to 10:45 A.M.

Parents are invited and highly encouraged to attend the graduation ceremony to be held in the school’s cafeteria. The G.R.E.A.T. Program’s primary objective is awareness and prevention of delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership. The G.R.E.A.T. lessons, aimed at elementary and middle school students, focus on providing life skills to help students avoid delinquent behavior and violence to solve problems. Invited to attend the graduation are Guam Supreme Court Chief Justice  F. Philip Carbullido and Superior Court of Guam Judge Arthur Barcinas, the supervisors of two of the G.R.E.A.T. Instructors.  Ms. Taling Taitano, Interim Superintendent Department of Education, Dededo Mayor Melissa Savares and Dededo Vice Mayor Peter Benavente have also been invited to attend.

U.S. Attorney Limtiaco stated, “We praise the hard work, motivation and significant accomplishments of our students in completing the G.R.E.A.T. Program, and commend the G.R.E.A.T. instructors for their continued commitment and dedication to our youth by taking the G.R.E.A.T. message to our schools in Guam.”

To date, G.R.E.A.T. instructors have taught over 2,614 students in both elementary and middle, private and public schools, since inception of the Program in Fall 2008.  Anyone interested in learning more about the program can log on to  www.great-online.org.
