National Take Back Initiative: Turn In Your Unused or Expired Medication for Safe, Anonymous Disposal
United States Attorney Alicia A.G. Limtiaco announced that her office is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Guam Police Department, the Attorney General's Office, the Department of Public Health and Social Services, the Guam Army National Guard, together with the Andersen Air Force Base Pharmacy, the Guam Medical Association, I Recycle, and other organizations, to assist in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Campaign.
The public is encouraged to bring their unused or expired medication to one of the drop off sites listed below to safely turn them in with no questions asked.
The National Take Back Day is April 28, 2012, so on Saturday, April 28, the following sites will be open from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM to receive prescription drugs:
Agana Shopping Center, First Floor Rotunda
Micronesia Mall, Second Floor
Andersen Air Force Base Exchange and Commissary
Naval Base Guam Food Court
Rota Health Center, Songsong Village
Tinian Health Center, San Jose Village
Horiguchi Federal Building Parking Lot, Garapan, Saipan
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. More than seven million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs and each day, approximately 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet. The purpose of the National Take Back Day is to provide venues for persons who want to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs safely.
