
Fugitive Marvin Scharff Sentenced
ALICIA A.G. LIMTIACO, United States Attorney for the Districts of Guam and Northern Mariana Islands (NMI), announced that defendant MARVIN SCHARFF, age 52, was sentenced today, in the District Court of Guam by Chief Judge Frances Tydingco-Gatewood. SCHARFF received a sentence of eight years plus four months imprisonment and four years supervised release for two counts of importation of heroin. SCHARFF was indicted on June 8, 1994 and pled guilty on July 8, 1994 to two counts of importation of heroin. SCHARFF did not show up for sentencing on February 24, 1995 and a Warrant for Arrest was issued. SCHARFF had been hiding in the Philippines and sixteen years later, turned himself in to the State Department and expressed his desire to return to Guam. On April 29, 2011, the defendant was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service upon entry into Guam.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Karon V. Johnson and investigated by special agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
