U.S. Attorney’s Office Collects $32,000 Restitution and $250,000
June 5, 2012
U.S. Attorney Alicia A.G. Limtiaco, Districts of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, announced today that its Financial Litigation Unit (FLU), collected $32,800 from the first wave of 2011 tax returns. This amount was collected from eight debtors via an MOU between our office and the Department of Revenue & Taxation (Rev & Tax). Some of these debts dated back as early as 1989. In some cases, the offset program with Rev & Tax, which was implemented in 2010, has been the only meaningful method of collecting restitution. In one 1997 Guam case which had a $50,000 judgment, the FLU has collected over $12,000 in tax returns since 2010.
FLU also collected $250,000 in the Lucky Dragon case.
