A Cerro Gordo County woman was sentenced August 25, 2010, to 15 years in federal prison for her role in a Mason City area methamphetamine conspiracy.

Amy Jo Kriens, age 40, of Mason City, Iowa, received her prison term after an April 14, 2010, guilty plea to conspiring to distribute methamphetamine.

Information provided by the United States at the sentencing and change of plea hearings revealed that, during the conspiracy between January 2005 and October 2009, Kriens was selling ice methamphetamine and providing methamphetamine to several sources to sell. Kriens sold methamphetamine in Mason City and Hampton.

Kriens was previously convicted of a felony drug offense in April 2002 in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa.

Kriens was sentenced in United States District Court in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Kriens was sentenced to 180 months’ imprisonment. Kriens must also serve a 10-year term of supervised release after prison. There is no parole in the federal system. Kriens was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.

Kriens is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until she can be transported to a federal prison.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jack Lammers and was investigated by the North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Mason City Police Department, Clear Lake Police Department and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
