A Cerro Gordo County man was sentenced August 25, 2010, to twenty years in federal prison for his role in a Mason City area methamphetamine conspiracy.

David Dean Snider, Jr., age 34, from Mason City, Iowa, received the prison term after an April 14, 2010, guilty plea to conspiring to manufacture methamphetamine.

Information provided by the United States at the sentencing and change of plea hearings revealed that during the conspiracy between October 2008 through November 2009, others provided Snider with pseudoephedrine pills which Snider used to manufacture methamphetamine. Just prior to being arrested Snider was manufacturing methamphetamine 2-3 times a week.

Snider was previously convicted of a felony drug offense in December 1998 in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa.

Snider was sentenced in United States District Court in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Snider was sentenced to 240 months’ imprisonment. Snider was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment. He must also serve an 8-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

Snider is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jack Lammers and investigated by the North Central Iowa narcotics Task Force, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Mason City Police Department, Clear lake Police Department and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
