Second Clarence Man Pleads Guilty To Manufacturing Methamphetamine Near A School

A man who manufactured methamphetamine near a school pled guilty today in federal court in Cedar Rapids.
Scott Bishop, age 41, from Clarence, Iowa, was convicted of one count of manufacturing methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school.
At the plea hearing, Bishop admitted that, between January 13 and January 21, 2010, he manufactured methamphetamine at his home that is within 1,000 feet of North Cedar Community Middle School in Clarence. On July 23, 2010, Gary Greathouse, age 38, from Clarence, also pled guilty to manufacturing methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of North Cedar Community Middle School and is detained pending sentencing.
Bishop’s sentencing before United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Bishop remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. Bishop faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 1 year imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of 40 years’ imprisonment, a $2,000,000 fine, a $100 special assessment, and at least 6 years and up to life on supervised release following any imprisonment.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel C. Tvedt and was investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office, the Muscatine Drug Task Force, and the Iowa State Patrol.
