Cedar Rapids Man Pleads Guilty To Possessing Child Pornography

A man who possessed computer images of child pornography pled guilty yesterday, August 30, 2010, in federal court in Cedar Rapids.

Thomas Paul Stevenson, age 51, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was convicted of one count of possession of child pornography.

In a plea agreement, Stevenson admitted that, on December 21, 2009, he possessed images of child pornography at his home in Cedar Rapids. Stevenson possessed the images on an external computer hard drive.

Sentencing before United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Stevenson was taken into custody by the United States Marshal after the guilty plea and will remain in custody pending sentencing. Stevenson faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, a $100 special assessment, and 5 years to life of supervised release following any imprisonment.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Peter Deegan and was investigated by the Cedar Rapid Police Department and the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children task Force.
