Federal Prosecutor Tabbed To Be Army General

Cedar Rapids Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) Patrick Reinert has been nominated by the President of the United States for promotion to Brigadier General in the United States Army Reserve and assignment as chief judge of the Army Court of Criminal Appeals. Reinert, age 49, was notified of the promotion selection yesterday when his name was sent to the United States Senate for confirmation.

As an AUSA, Reinert handles criminal prosecutions and serves as the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Chief for the Office. As an Army judge, he isthe Commander of the 150th Judge Advocate General Detachment in Alexandria, Virginia, an Army Reserve Unit composed of military judges presiding over courts-martial worldwide. He was deployed from February 2005 to February 2006 and conducted over 90 courts-martial in Germany, Italy, Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Reinert has been an AUSA for the Northern District of Iowa since 1990. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Iowa State University in 1983, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1986, and a Master of Strategic Studies Degree from the U.S. Army War College in 2005.
