John Repici, age 62, from Anamosa, Iowa, has been arrested on a federal charge of being a domestic violence misdemeanant in possession of firearms. The charge is contained in an Indictment filed on July 28, 2010, in United States District Court in Cedar Rapids. Repici was ordered to be temporarily detained pending a detention hearing on August 10, 2010.

The Indictment alleges that, on or about December 11, 2008, Repici possessed three firearms after he had been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence – Assault (Domestic Abuse) – on October 18, 2007.

Repici’s trial is set for October 4, 2010. If convicted, he faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, a $100 special assessment, and 3 years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

As with any criminal case, a charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Bob Teig as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a cooperative local, state, and federal program aimed at the enhanced prosecution of gun crimes. The case was investigated by the Anamosa Police Department.
