
Guatemalan Man Pleads Guilty To Illegal Re-Entry

A man who illegally re-entered the United States from Guatemala pled guilty on July 30, 2010, in federal court in Sioux City.
Manuel Chox Y Chox, age 36, from Guatemala but living in Sioux County, Iowa, was convicted of one count of illegal re-entry.
At the plea hearing, Chox Y Chox admitted he was an illegal alien from Guatemala present in the United States without permission. He previously had been removed on August 5, 2006. On February 21, 2010, Chox Y Chox was arrested by the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office and charged with OWI and identity theft.
Sentencing before United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Chox Y Chox remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. Chox Y Chox faces up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, a $100 special assessment, and up to 1 year of supervised release.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
