
Stalker to federal prison for possessing firearm and ammunition

A convicted stalker who had a handgun and ammunition was sentenced today to almost five years in federal prison.
Clayton Miller, age 35, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, received the prison term after a September 21, 2010, guilty plea to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Miller was convicted of felony Stalking in Jefferson County, Iowa, on February 25, 2008. On March 15, 2010, parole officers visited Miller’s Cedar Rapids residence and found .22 caliber ammunition and a stolen .22 caliber revolver.
Miller was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Miller was sentenced to 57 months’ imprisonment, and a special assessment of $100 was imposed. He must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Miller is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be returned to Iowa prison where he was serving a state sentence.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Bob Teig as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a cooperative local, state, and federal program aimed at the enhanced prosecution of gun crimes. The case was investigated by the High Risk Unit of the Sixth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services.
