Contact: Peter Deegan
A felon who pawned three long guns was sentenced today to more than three years in federal prison.
Cory Pazour, age 31, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, received the prison term after a September 28, 2009, guilty plea to one count of being a felon in possession of firearms.
Pazour was convicted in June 2001 in Linn County, Iowa, of Forgery. This was a felony crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year. On March 5, 2009, Pazour pawned a rifle and shotgun at a pawn shop in Cedar Rapids. These guns were two of three guns he was holding for a friend, and Pazour had no authority to pawn them. When the friend went to reclaim the guns, all three were missing. The third gun was recovered from another pawn shop.
Pazour was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Pazour was sentenced to 37 months’ imprisonment, and a special assessment of $100 was imposed. He was ordered to make $220 in restitution to the two pawns shops where he pawned the guns. Pazour must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Pazour was taken into the United States Marshal’s custody after the sentencing and is being held until he can be transported to a federal prison.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Bob Teig as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a cooperative local, state, and federal program aimed at the enhanced prosecution of gun crimes. The case was investigated by the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
