
mexican man pleads guilty to using fraudulent documents

A man who illegally claimed U.S. citizenship and used a false social security number and regulated documents pled guilty on June 30, 2010, in federal court in Sioux City.
Abel Trejo-Gutierrez, age 40, from Sioux City, Iowa, was convicted of one count of making a false claim of citizenship, one count of use of a false social security number, and one count of fraud and misuse of regulated documents.
At the plea hearing, Trejo-Gutierrez admitted he presented a false social security card and other identification documents on December 29, 2009, when applying for a job in Sioux City.
Sentencing before United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Trejo-Gutierrez remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. Trejo-Gutierrez faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of $750,000, $300 in special assessments, and up to 3 years’ of supervised release following any imprisonment.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
