A LaMotte man involved with others in stealing shipments of meat pled guilty today in federal court in Cedar Rapids.

Lloyd Patterson, age 48, from LaMotte, Iowa, was convicted of one count of conspiring to steal, receive, and possess property valued in excess of $1,000 that had been stolen from interstate shipments.

In a plea agreement, Patterson admitted that from about the fall of 2006 through September 2007, he conspired with others to steal, receive, possess, and convert to his own use processed meat products knowing the goods had been stolen from semi-trailers loaded and driven from a storage facility in East Dubuque, Illinois.

Sentencing before United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Patterson remains free on bond previously set pending sentencing. Patterson faces a maximum sentence of not more than 5 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, a $100 special assessment, and 3 years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

Patterson’s brother, James Patterson was previously sentenced to 27 months imprisonment, and his sister-in-law Patricia Patterson is awaiting sentencing on related charges.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Richard L. Murphy and was investigated by the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office.
