
Mexican man pleads guilty to illegal re-Entry

A man who illegally re-entered the United States from Mexico after being deported for a felony conviction pled guilty on June 10, 2010, in federal court in Sioux City.
Ismael Guerrero-Ramirez, age 37, from Sioux City, Iowa, was convicted of one count of illegal re-entry as a felon.
At the plea hearing, Guerrero-Ramirez admitted he was an illegal alien present in the United States without permission. In May of 2010, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents received information that Guerrero-Ramirez was working at a Sioux City business under another name. When questioned, Guerrero-Ramirez admitted he was a citizen of Mexico with no right to be in the United States. In September of 2000, he was convicted of felony failure to appear with a suspended five-year sentence and deported.
Sentencing before United States District Court Judge Donald E. O’Brien will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Guerrero-Ramirez remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. Guerrero-Ramirez faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, a $100 special assessment, and up to 3 years of supervised release.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
