
cedar rapids man charged with being domestic abuser with gun

Jamie Goad, 20, from Cedar Rapids, has been charged with one count of being a domestic violence misdemeanant in possession of a shotgun. The charge is contained in an Indictment filed on June 8, 2010, in United States District Court in Cedar Rapids.
The Indictment alleges that, on or about April 9, 2010, Goad possessed a 12 gauge shotgun after he had been convicted on April 15, 2009, of a misdemeanor Assault Causing Bodily Injury (Domestic Abuse) charge in Linn County, Iowa.
If convicted, Goad faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, a $100 special assessment, and 3 years of supervised release following any imprisonment.
Goad was arrested last night and appeared today in federal court in Cedar Rapids. He was ordered held without bond pending a detention hearing on June 18, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. Goad’s trial is set for August 9, 2010.
As with any criminal case, a charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Bob Teig as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a cooperative local, state, and federal program aimed at the enhanced prosecution of gun crimes. The case was investigated by the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
