
Sioux city illegal alien sentenced for re-Entering the u.S.

A Guatemalan man who illegally re-entered the United States after being deported was sentenced on May 28, 2010, to a year and one-half in federal prison.
Juan Pichilla-Marroquin, from Guatemala but living in Sioux City, received the prison term after a February 17, 2010, guilty plea to one count of illegal re-entry as an aggravated felon.
At the guilty plea, Pichilla-Marroquin admitted he had illegally re-entered the United States being deported in December of 2008, following a conviction in the Iowa District Court for Woodbury County of OWI, third offense.
Pichilla-Marroquin was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett. Pichilla-Marroquin was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment. A special assessment of $100 was imposed. He must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Pichilla-Marroquin is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
