cedar rapids man sentenced for downloading child pornography

A man who received child pornography over the Internet was sentenced today to more than 12 years in federal prison.

Charles Andrew Williams, age 42, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, received the prison term after a January 27, 2010, guilty plea to one count of receiving child pornography.

According to information disclosed in court, in the Fall of 2009, Williams used a computer to receive child pornography over the Internet. On October 1, 2009, Williams possessed child pornography on a computer at his home in Cedar Rapids.

Williams was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Williams was sentenced to 151 months’ imprisonment and fined $7,000. A special assessment of $100 was imposed, and he must serve a 10-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

Williams is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Peter E. Deegan, Jr. and investigated by the Marion Police Department.
