lamotte man faces stolen meat charge

Lloyd Patterson, age 48, from LaMotte, Iowa, has been charged in an Information with one count of conspiring to steal, receive, and possess property valued in excess of $1,000 that had been stolen from interstate shipments. The Information was filed today in United States District Court in Cedar Rapids.

The Information alleges that, from about the fall of 2006 through September 2007, Patterson conspired with others to steal, receive, possess, and convert to his own use processed meat products knowing the goods had been stolen from semi-trailers loaded and driven from a storage facility in East Dubuque, Illinois.

If convicted, Patterson faces a possible maximum sentence of not more than 5 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, a $100 special assessment, and 3 years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

As with any criminal case, a charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Richard L. Murphy and was investigated by the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office.
