A sex offender who failed to register as required was sentenced May 4, 2010, to more than a year in federal prison.

Ronnie Joseph Duhart, 32, from Mason City, Iowa, received the prison term after a February 2, 2010, guilty plea to one count of failing to register as a sex offender.

In a plea agreement, Duhart admitted he had been convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child in Texas, which required him to register as a sex offender. He admitted he traveled to Iowa and failed to register as a sex offender, as required.

Duhart was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Duhart was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment. A special assessment of $100 was imposed. He must also serve a 10-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

Duhart is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca Goodgame Ebinger and investigated by the United States Marshal’s Service.
